Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Unboxing
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Unboxing

Construction Helix Unboxing
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Unboxing
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you can always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Unboxing
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Unboxing
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
