Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Twitter
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual model offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Twitter

Construction Helix Twitter
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Twitter
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel right, you can always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Twitter
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Twitter
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
