Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Twin
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Twin

Construction Helix Twin
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Twin
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models feel quite right, you may always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Twin
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Twin
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
