Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Twin Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual model provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Twin Mattress

Construction Helix Twin Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Twin Mattress

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Twin Mattress

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you are going to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Twin Mattress

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
