Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Tuck Review

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Tuck Review

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Tuck Review

Construction Helix Tuck Review

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct versions (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Tuck Review

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these options feel quite right, you could always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Tuck Review

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Tuck Review

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
