Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Transparent
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Transparent

Construction Helix Transparent
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Transparent
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you can always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Transparent
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Transparent
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
