Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Thickness
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Thickness

Construction Helix Thickness
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Thickness
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Thickness
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Thickness
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
