Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sunset Mattress Review
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sunset Mattress Review

Construction Helix Sunset Mattress Review
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sunset Mattress Review
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you can always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sunset Mattress Review
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sunset Mattress Review
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
