Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Strain
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Strain

Construction Helix Strain
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Strain
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options seem right, you may always check out the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Strain
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Strain
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
