Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleepopolis

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleepopolis

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleepopolis

Construction Helix Sleepopolis

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleepopolis

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options sound right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleepopolis

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleepopolis

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
