Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleeper
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleeper

Construction Helix Sleeper
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Sleeper
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options sound quite right, you may always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleeper
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleeper
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
