Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Unboxing
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual model provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Unboxing

Construction Helix Sleep Unboxing
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleep Unboxing
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you could always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Unboxing
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep Unboxing
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
