Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Sherpa
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Sherpa

Construction Helix Sleep Sherpa
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep Sherpa
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options sound right, you may always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Sherpa
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
