Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Reviews

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep Reviews

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Reviews

Construction Helix Sleep Reviews

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Reviews

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Reviews

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Reviews

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
