Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Queen
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Queen

Construction Helix Sleep Queen
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleep Queen
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options feel right, you may always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Queen
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
