Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Manta
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Manta

Construction Helix Sleep Manta
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep Manta
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Manta
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Manta
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
