Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep King
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep King

Construction Helix Sleep King
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep King
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options feel right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep King
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep King
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
