Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Hq

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep Hq

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Hq

Construction Helix Sleep Hq

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Sleep Hq

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models feel quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Hq

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep Hq

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
