Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Hot
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Hot

Construction Helix Sleep Hot
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleep Hot
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options sound quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Hot
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep Hot
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
