Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Headquarters

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep Headquarters

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Headquarters

Construction Helix Sleep Headquarters

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep Headquarters

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you can always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Headquarters

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep Headquarters

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
