Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep/Crooked
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep/Crooked

Construction Helix Sleep/Crooked
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep/Crooked
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models feel right, you could always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep/Crooked
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep/Crooked
Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
