Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Careers

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Careers

Construction Helix Sleep Careers

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Careers

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you may always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Careers

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Careers

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
