Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Ben
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Ben

Construction Helix Sleep Ben
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleep Ben
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you could always check out the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Ben
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep Ben
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
