Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Adam Tishman

Construction Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these options feel right, you may always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
