Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress

Construction Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
