Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Quality Standards

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Quality Standards

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Quality Standards

Construction Helix Quality Standards

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Quality Standards

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound right, you may always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Quality Standards

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Quality Standards

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
