Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Psychology Louisville Ky

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Psychology Louisville Ky

Construction Helix Psychology Louisville Ky

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Psychology Louisville Ky

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Psychology Louisville Ky

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you are going to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Psychology Louisville Ky

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
