Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Pintuck Comforter

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Pintuck Comforter

Construction Helix Pintuck Comforter

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Pintuck Comforter

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these options sound right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Pintuck Comforter

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Pintuck Comforter

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
