Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Pillow Reviews

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Pillow Reviews

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Pillow Reviews

Construction Helix Pillow Reviews

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct models (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Pillow Reviews

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Pillow Reviews

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Pillow Reviews

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
