Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Overfilled Microplush Mattress Pad

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Overfilled Microplush Mattress Pad

Construction Helix Overfilled Microplush Mattress Pad

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Overfilled Microplush Mattress Pad

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these options seem right, you could always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Overfilled Microplush Mattress Pad

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are going to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Overfilled Microplush Mattress Pad

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
