Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Outline
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Outline

Construction Helix Outline
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Outline
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options sound right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Outline
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Outline
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
