Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix On Slats
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix On Slats

Construction Helix On Slats
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix On Slats
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these options seem right, you may always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix On Slats
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix On Slats
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
