Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Nine9
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Nine9

Construction Helix Nine9
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Nine9
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Nine9
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Nine9
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
