Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Nightfall Mattress Review
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Nightfall Mattress Review

Construction Helix Nightfall Mattress Review
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different versions (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Nightfall Mattress Review
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you can always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Nightfall Mattress Review
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Nightfall Mattress Review
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
