Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Night Light Review

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Night Light Review

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Night Light Review

Construction Helix Night Light Review

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Night Light Review

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you may always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Night Light Review

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Night Light Review

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
