Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter

Construction Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter

Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you could always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
