Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattresses
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattresses

Construction Helix Mattresses
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Mattresses
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you can always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattresses
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattresses
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
