Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattresses Customers Reviews

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattresses Customers Reviews

Construction Helix Mattresses Customers Reviews

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattresses Customers Reviews

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you could always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattresses Customers Reviews

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattresses Customers Reviews

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
