Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattresses 2019
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattresses 2019

Construction Helix Mattresses 2019
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattresses 2019
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattresses 2019
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattresses 2019
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
