Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Vs Lull

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Mattress Vs Lull

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Vs Lull

Construction Helix Mattress Vs Lull

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Vs Lull

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Vs Lull

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Vs Lull

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
