Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Unwrapping

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual model provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Unwrapping

Construction Helix Mattress Unwrapping

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Unwrapping

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Unwrapping

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Unwrapping

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
