Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Twin
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Twin

Construction Helix Mattress Twin
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Twin
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you can always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Twin
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Twin
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
