Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Trial

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Trial

Construction Helix Mattress Trial

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Trial

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these models feel quite right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Trial

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are going to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Trial

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
