Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Stores
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Stores

Construction Helix Mattress Stores
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Stores
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options sound right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Stores
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Stores
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
