Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Stomach Sleeper Review

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Mattress Stomach Sleeper Review

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Stomach Sleeper Review

Construction Helix Mattress Stomach Sleeper Review

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Stomach Sleeper Review

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options feel quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Stomach Sleeper Review

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Stomach Sleeper Review

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
