Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Side Sleepers
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Side Sleepers

Construction Helix Mattress Side Sleepers
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Side Sleepers
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models feel right, you could always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Side Sleepers
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Side Sleepers
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
