Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Shipping Delays

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Shipping Delays

Construction Helix Mattress Shipping Delays

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Shipping Delays

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Shipping Delays

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Shipping Delays

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
