Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Setup

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Mattress Setup

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Setup

Construction Helix Mattress Setup

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Setup

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you may always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Setup

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Setup

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
