Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Sagging

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Sagging

Construction Helix Mattress Sagging

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Sagging

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Sagging

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Sagging

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.

Final Thoughts Helix Mattress Sagging
