Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Rotate

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Rotate

Construction Helix Mattress Rotate

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Rotate

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Rotate

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Rotate

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
